SUMMARY:Closing Reception: Cake Party with Visiting Artist Patrick Costello!
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the closing of Landing with a grand cake celebration by artists Patrick Costello and Ben Simon!\n\n\nPatrick Costello’s work in the exhibition\, Piping\, is a nod to a monumental composting structure called AND EAT IT TOO that is currently on view at Stone Quarry Hill Art Park in Cazenovia NY.  Made of plants\, hay\, wood chips\, and elephant dung\, both sculptures find joy in our being part of the ecosystem\, explore the many relationships we have to land\, and invite the notion that we are creatures of joy\, pleasure\, and decay.  In that spirit\, let’s have that cake — which is baked by Ben Simon\, whose comestible artworks celebrate local ingredients\, collectivity\, and the joy of sharing a special meal!  All are welcome! \n\nThursday\, October 26\, 4:30-6:00pm. \n\n\n\n\nPatrick Costello is an artist and performer who works across creative disciplines and genres\, contending with themes of history\, ecology\, horticulture\, collaboration\, and queer joy. Informed by the process of composting\, Patrick’s work experiments with temporary world-building as a way of accessing the potential for collective transformation and utopian possibility.  Patrick completed an MFA in Combined Media at Hunter College in 2018 and earned a BA in Printmaking from the University of Virginia in 2008. \n\nLanding was made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
