SUMMARY:Senior Thesis Exhibition 2018
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: May 7\, 6-8pm \n\nThe Wells College Visual Arts Department is pleased to announce the opening of the 2018 Senior Thesis Exhibition. The show features the culminating works by Wells’ senior Visual Art: Studio Art Majors: Sonja Anderson\, Amanda Bottorff\, Alexis Simone Reinhold\, and Jasmine Wittig. The public is invited to attend the opening reception in the String Room Gallery on Monday\, May 7th from 6-8 pm\, where they will have the opportunity to meet and talk with the artists at that time. Light refreshments will be served. For those interested who cannot attend the opening\, the show will run through May 19th\, open by appointment. \nSonja Anderson (Aurora NY) is a mixed media and conceptual artist. She is currently exploring systems of belief and the search for meaning through the creation of a paradox that poses as a religious concept. She uses found objects and collage\, and sources ideas and materials from her local surroundings. Her current exhibition in the Wells College String Room Gallery is The Void\, which presents the contradictory belief and worship of nothing. It takes physical form through anointed objects\, collage\, video\, and a physical space. Through sight\, sound and touch one can begin to understand what it means to be one with nothingness. \nAmanda Bottorff (Cicero\, NY) is a ceramic artist whose work addresses the shame imposed on women and female bodies. She has created an interactive collection of ceramic tessellation tiles\, featuring text sourced from friends\, family\, and Wells College students\, that invites the public to a safe space where they can put together words that describe their experiences of living in the world. Her goal is to promote autonomy and break down taboos surrounding women and the female body. \nAlexis Simone Reinhold (Manhattan Beach\, CA/ East Greenbush\, NY) is a fiber and material artist. She is currently working to weaponize the process of weaving\, drawing parallels between the historical oppressions women have endured and the present ways in which women revert to weaponizing everyday objects. By using fiber processes to represent the female/femme experience\, Reinhold connects material to the tangible ways that women are affected by rape culture and the society that condones it. \nJasmine Wittig (Odessa\, NY) is a multimedia artist. With her current work she explores the online conversation revolving around millennials. She has done this through multiple works\, with varying degrees of simplicity that force the viewer to directly confront the issue presented. Her goal is to capture the narrative that is being forced onto the millennial generation by popular media.
