The String Room Gallery is proud to present:
Do You Know You’re A Person?
A solo exhibition by Miranda Javid
Opening Reception: Thursday, Nov 9, 4:30-6:30pm with a walk-through by the artist at 5pm.
In the String Room Gallery, Javid will exhibit a collection of drawings, a new work produced at Wells, and premiere an animated short film. The film, titled What Humans Do, is entirely hand drawn, created with ink on tracing paper. The piece seeks to examine human-beings in macro—with the goal of understanding what homosapiens share, rather than in what ways they are fractured. The loose narrative of the film describes an androgynous character’s contemporary existence. In following how the character’s interact with their environment, the film seeks to examine the extractive as well as restorative aspects of human nature. The accompanying drawings will be a series of abstract works, collections of repeated hand-drawn shapes that reference Paleolithic marks found in caves around the world. These pieces juxtapose with the narrative of the film, serving as a reminder of human-need to trace their existence by saying ‘I was here.’
Miranda Javid (she/her) is an animator, curator, and art-educator with a Masters in Fine Art from the University of California Irvine and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She is a Kenan Fellow, a Denniston Hill resident, a Sherman Fairchild grantee, and a recipient of the Nancy Harrigan Prize, given through the Baker Artist Fund.
